Reprint of the first edition (London 1713) with German parallel text.

Edited, translated and introduced by Günter Gawlick.
Preface by Julius Ebbinghaus.

In this work, Collins (1676–1729), a friend of John Locke, »made the concept of the freethinker into the intellectual common property of Europe. Everything that can be said against the belief in authority and in favor of freedom of study and freedom of expression is contained in this work« (E. Hirsch). This work caused an uproar and triggered a flood of refutations.
