Rudolf Metz: George Berkeley

George Berkeley developed the first consistent theory of an epistemological idealism. In his subtle analyses, in particular those pertaining to the traditional language of metaphysics, he was an important source for Hume and Kant. The conflict with Berkeley has continued up to the present, above all among representatives of analytic philosophy. Metz’s account is one of the standard works of the Berkeley research and continues to present us with an indispensable overall view today.
