1500 years separate the texts written in prison by the ancient author Boethius and the Turkish writer Ahmet Altan. The extreme circumstances of their writing form the basis for Nils Röller’s comparative study: how do they write texts, how do they discuss and represent time? In Boethius’ ›Trostschrift‹, poems as a representation of the experience of time are compared with speculation about eternity. In his texts written in prison, Altan describes his fight against time. Both authors create figurations of philosophy. Boethius developed ›Philosophia‹, which represented philosophical doctrine until the 16th century. In Altan’s ›Hayat heißt Leben‹, a dancing woman stands for an alternative idea of philosophical practice.
