Johann Gottfried Herder: Studien und Entwürfe

Johann Gottfried Herder (1744–1803) is regarded as one of the most influential intellectuals of the 18th century. This is the first critical edition containing mainly previous unpublished handwritten manuscripts from his literary estate –primarily from Herder’s academic transcripts – on questions of aesthetics, anthropology, the philosophy of language and the philosophy of history, the history of science and metaphysics. These studies and drafts make the origins of Herder’s early thinking and the contexts he used for the construction of his theories more precise and incisive than they had been previously.
