The first volume of the handbook has broken new scholarly ground. For the first time, it shows how new approaches in very different areas gradually focused on popular Enlightenment. Most of these titles, which are still available today, are documented based on personal inspection. As all other volumes of this set, it contains a detailed introduction. This means that there is not only a bibliography with the localization of documents but also at the same time an initial literary guide to this area, which was previously almost inaccessible.
