Up to now there has been no systematic study of peasant resistance in the period following the Peasants‘ War from the perspective of its function for the development of the absolutist territorial state or for the political system of the Holy Roman Empire. The scope of the study of the few spectacular uprisings with a regional escalation has also not been broadened to include the basic phenomenon of peasant resistance against authority.
