Grammatica Universalis

This series provides important works on linguistics and linguistic philosophy published in the 17th and 18th centuries. They are all in the tradition of the grammatica universalis, which ranges from the grammatica speculativa of scholasticism to Descartes and Leibniz, from the French and German Enlightenment and W. von Humboldt to E. Husserl and the latest studies of linguistic theory carried out by N. Chomsky. The objective of the »allgemeinen Grammatik« (Universal Grammar) is the recognition of universally valid principles for all existing and potential languages as well as an explanation of the historical and individual language process as a realization of systematically recognized possibilities. Due to similar efforts in current research in linguistics and logic, the works shown here, written in this tradition, are particularly up-to-date. Each volume is a facsimile reprint of the most reliable version and contains an introduction in either German, English, French or Spanish, in accordance with the language in which it was written.
