While the first supplementary volume reproduces writings newly attributed to Weigel, the second volume contains selected pseudo-Weigeliana that are associated with Weigel’s body of work in various ways and, in some cases, date back to Weigel’s lifetime. In his habilitation thesis Der frühe Weigelianismus. Zur Kritik der Pseudoweigeliana (Early Weigelianism: A Critique of the Pseudoweigeliana), published in 1971, the Marburg-based Weigel scholar Winfried Zeller wrote that research into this literature is “an urgent scholarly imperative in order to more precisely determine Valentin Weigel’s intellectual influence on his contemporaries and posterity.
