On the basis of the characterization of the text corpus (CP 7,3.1), this volume will assess the relationship between the Corpus Hermeticum and appropriate representatives of the Theological Philosophy and the Philosophical Theology of the Roman Empire. The conclusions will form the foundation of the first comprehensive study on the Corpus Hermeticum in the tension between Philosophy and Religion of the Empire. The second part is devoted to the relationship between the Corpus Hermeticum and imperial Platonism (Plutarch of Chaeronea, the Chaldean Oracles, Numenius of Apamea, Porphyry of Tyre, Plotinus, Iamblichus of Chalcis).

The study is based on the results of the eponymous project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG): https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/387904247
