The conceptual history of a central myth of our modern age has not yet been told: the history of the concept of creativity. As a result, we remain unaware of what has enabled our thinking and decision-making to this day. This book of Morton Bierganns responds to this desideratum. Using a structural conceptual-historical method developed specifically for this purpose, he traces the genealogy of ›creativity‹ with the aid of digital tools: from the psychological and technological debate surrounding the concept in the 20th century, through the economic discourse of the 19th century on the concept of economic efficiency, and into the debates on the concept of beauty in 18th-century poetics. The book shows that the history of ›creativity‹ corresponds to the successive expansion of poetic thought structures of the 18th century into all areas of society.
