The ›Grundlegung zur Metaphysik der Sitten‹ (Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals) was Kant’s first and most important publication on moral philosophy. The terminology and language which Kant developed in this work have had a decisive influence on the discussion of ethical issues up to the present time. The volume of indexes makes the language and the vocabulary of this work completely accessible for the first time, thus creating the prerequisites for a new systematic study of the language in Kantian body of works on ethics. At the same time, this volume is also the beginning of the second section of the Kant Index of the University of Trier, the indexes on Kant’s body of work on ethics. The lengthy introduction reflects on the prerequisites, possibilities and limitations of the documentation on textual interpretation in the area of Kant research. Based on an overview on the more than 200-year-old history of Kant lexicography, the methods of EDP are connected historically and factually to the requirements and demands of research. It is not the opportunities which modern EDP offers but only a specific rational scientific purpose which uses EDP as a tool which can lead to acceptable results in language engineering.
