This volume includes the last five of Bolzano’s published writings which reveal the breadth of his work: In 1845, Bolzano dedicated a biography to his family doctor, Julius Vinzenz von Krombholz, which is both factual and informed. He subsequently published two social-philosophical treatises in 1847: an analysis of the concept of charity (based on an edification speech given in 1812) and concrete proposals on how to alleviate the poverty of Prague’s population. In the same year, an appreciation of Christian Doppler’s many scientific achievements was published, as well as a lecture on questions of general linguistics.
