Together with Volume 7, this volume contains Gerhard’s early homiletic work, making milestones in the history of Lutheran homiletics and the rhetorica sacra accessible once again. Volume 6 contains a series of sermons on the passion of Christ which had strong influence on subsequent preachers and on the meditations on the passion in Lutheran orthodoxy. The critical text is accompanied by a text-critical apparatus and an apparatus of annotations. The appendix contains indexes (names, biblical passages). The afterword describes Gerhard’s significance in the history of Lutheran sermons on the passion of Christ.
