The ›Fließende Licht der Gottheit‹ (The Flowing Light of Divinity), written by the mystic Mechthild of Magdeburg (1207–1282), is the oldest surviving document of women’s mysticism in German. The first complete translation of the text (1955), which had been out of print for a long time, is being presented here in an extensive revised edition based on the text-critical Middle High German edition edited by Hans Neumann (1990/93). The annotations have been supplemented, mainly by evidence pertaining to the historical sources. Detailed indexes of biblical passages, names, authors and subjects make the volume accessible.
