Margot Schmidt: Die Stufen der geistlichen Erfahrung nach Rudolf von Biberach

The main work written by Rudolf von Biberach (approximately 1270–1326), a kind of textbook of mysticism, was first published at the end of the 13th century in Latin, and the Latin handwritten manuscript transmission was widely distributed overall in Central Europe. Between 1345 and 1360, an unknown person from the region of Basel translated the work into High Alemannic German (MS Einsiedeln 278). Whereas German mysticism almost always conceals its sources, this treatise lists the names of more than 40 authors responsible for the source texts between the 2nd and the 13th century. Against this historical backdrop, it is easier to understand and classify Christian-German mysticism.
