Rudolf (around 1270-1326) was a contemporary of Meister Eckhart and worked in Strasbourg, as did Meister Eckhart. Rudolf was a lecturer and a teacher in the Studium Generale (extracurricular studies). His main work was read not only by the clergy but was also circulated at universites as well as among the nobility and the haute bourgeoisie, which was an indication of the intellectual standing already attributed to him by his contemporaries. ›Die sieben Wege zu Gott‹ (The Seven Ways to God) also gives texts and ideas originating from a number of spiritual and theological authors from the 14th to the 17th century. The ›Die siben strassen zu got‹ documents the fact that the history of mysticism is also a history of education which was passed on to our second millennium with Rudolf von Biberach as its intermediary.
