Karl Leonhard Reinhold: Band 2: Korrespondenz 1788–1790

This volume shows us Reinhold at the height of his fame and his scholarly activities, communicating with the leading figures of his time. The focus is on his enormous commitment to explaining, propagating and refining the philosophy of Kant. In addition to numerous essays and the revised edition of ›Briefe über die Kantischen Philosophie‹ (Letters on Kantian Philosophy) he explains his own philosophy in his two works entitled ›Versuch einer neuen Theorie des menschlichen Vorstellungsvermögens‹ (Essay towards a New Theory of the Faculty of Representation) and ›Beyträge zur Berichtigung bisheriger Mißverständnisse der Philosophen‹(Contributions to the Correction of Previous Misunderstandings of Philosophers). His most important correspondent is Kant, however his correspondence with Jacobi, Fülleborn, Justi, Abicht, Garve, Heydenreich, Nicolai, Biester, Schlichtegroll, Voß, Girtanner and Platner covers the entire spectrum of philosophical positions. Thus Reinhold was at the very center of the philosophical discussions of his time. He also corresponded with Wieland, Baggesen, Döderlein, Batsch and Göschen. The volume contains detailed indexes of subjects, persons and places as well as lists of Reinhold’s writings and reviews between 1788 and 1790.
