If German idealism saw nihilism as a method of overcoming the transcendencelessness of mere rational thinking to begin with, this idea was reversed in the Russian Enlightenment and in the works of Nietzsche, becoming a denial of the reality of life. Furthermore, Heidegger, whose ›Beiträge zur Philosophie‹ (Contributions to Philosophy) have already been incorporated, developed the connection between a nihilistic denial of the question of being and the resulting irreligious mastery of beings within the world.
